Lankaran State University
is a higher education institution founded in 1992. The infrastructure of the university includes 3 educational buildings, 1 administrative building, 2 student dormitories, 18 service apartments with one-two-three rooms for professor-teaching staff, tourism-educational practice center (SEASIDE hotel), a scientific library, an assembly hall, 3 reading rooms, 3 student canteens, 10 laboratories, two small and one large football pitches, a gym, a printing house and a greenhouse.
There are 6 faculties (Natural Sciences, Philology and primary education, History, geography and art, Economics and management, Agriculture and engineering, Veterinary Medicine), 14 departments at LSU. Currently, 6276 bachelor's and 416 master's students, doctoral students and dissertation students are studying at our university.
Since 2020, Lankaran Social-Agrarian Technological College has been included in the structure of the university.
International and Republican scientific conferences are regularly being held in university. Students and teachers take an active part in Republican and International knowledge competitions and sports events, also they are an initiator and active participant of a number of socio-political and cultural events. LSU is a member of Associations of the State Universities of Caspian Region Countries, the Euroasian Universities, Azerbaijan-Russia Higher Educational Institutions and Caucasus University, the university has developed educational and scientific relations with more than 70 foreign universities and signed bilateral agreements. Lankaran State University is the participant of international grant projects, such as ERASMUS +, Mevlana, HORIZON 2020 and others. Within the framework of these projects, the university has conducted student and teacher exchange programs with many foreign universities, was registered in “QS Rankings” and works on double diploma projects with both foreign and republican universities.

Date of creation:
- International Cooperation Department, re-formed since 2015 as part of the Department of Science and International Cooperation, and from January 1, 2018, functions independently.
- International relations of Lankaran State University (LSU) cover directions of bilateral cooperation with foreign universities, students and academic staff exchange programmes, participation in international educational programs, recruitments of international students to the university, cooperation with relevant International Organizations and others.
- LSU takes into account the cooperation with foreign universities, the implementation of the exchange of students and academic staff, the realisation of joint Summer Schools and Double Diploma programs, the organization of joint scientific conferences and workshops and the conducting of mutually beneficial experience.
- Lankaran State University implements projects and collaborates with international organizations, functioning in our country with such as ERASMUS +, Mevlana (Turkey) and others.
- Within the framework of these projects, relations were established with several universities of Ukraine (Kharkiv National University of Radio Electronics), Czech Republic ( Mendel University), Spain (Leon University), Poland (Varmia and Mazuri University, University of Rzsezov), Hungary (Kaposvar University, University of Debrecen), Romania ( University of Galati), Turkiye (Marmara University, Istanbul university, Ankara University, Ege University, Gazi University and so on), and other countries, academic staff and students took part in the trainings of the suitable universities.
- Currently, it is actively participating as a partner university in a number of international projects and LSU professors/teachers and students visited different European universities. They have lectured and participated in trainings held in universities of European countries. Within the framework of the Erasmus+KA171, Erasmus+ KA2 program (Capacity building in higher education).
- The University`s ISSN indexed “Scientific News” journal is published twice a year, consisting on Mathematics and natural sciences and Humanities series.
- Since 2024, Lankaran State University has started participating in the QS stars rating system, which is one of the most prestigious rating organizations in the world. Updating the data at QS Stars and the International Cooperation Department has focused on several key activities. In particular, LSU's policy has been updated to update information on LSU's Website and align with QS Stars criteria.
- To improve our position in the QS World University Rankings (WUR), the Department of International Cooperation has focused on several key activities. We have updated LSU's policies to align with WUR criteria, particularly in areas such as research output, faculty performance and student engagement. The departments' website has been updated to provide accurate and accessible information about the faculty's achievements, research impact and international collaborations. We have also incorporated detailed and evidence-based data into the WUR portal, including research outcomes, faculty/student ratios, staff numbers, student and diversity. We have made important updates to the university website to clearly highlight faculty achievements and WUR criteria.
- Our university has joined the list of prestigious higher education rankings of the world "QS World University Rankings" and "Webometrics", and is currently aiming to rise to the top of the rankings.
- Agreements and protocols on cooperation were signed with Khazar University, Baku Engineering University, Baku Euroasia University, Azerbaijan Theology Institution, Azerbaijan Technological University and others, allowing opportunities for promoting the mobility of teachers, researchers and students and under a contract with BSU specialties: “Teaching of Azerbaijani language and literature”, “Teaching of Russian language and literature”, “Teaching of History” and “Ecology”, under an agreement with ASOIU specialty “Computer engineering”, according to an agreement concluded with APU “Teaching chemistry and Biology ”and “Primary School Teacher ”and in accordance with the agreement with UNEC the issuance of a double diploma to undergraduate students from the specialties “Economics” and “Business Management”.
- Along with higher education institutions, our university cooperates with the Institute of Genetic Resources, the Institute of Microbiology, Dendrology, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry, the Folklore Institute, the Lankaran Regional Center and other institutes of ANAS.
