"Foreign Languages" department is one of the largest departments of Lankaran State University. It has been operating since 1992. The department specializes in 050103-Bachelor's degree in English language teaching and master's degree in 060103-Methods and methodology of foreign language teaching. At present, there are 22 employees in the department. One of them is a doctor of philological sciences, professor (0.5 staff), 2 Ph.D., associate professors (1.0 staff), 6 head teachers (1.0 staff), 10 (1.0 staff) teachers, 2 head teachers (0.5 staff), and 1(0.5 staff) teacher. The department prepares personnel for the specialities of English language teaching and carries out scientific-research works in the following two directions:

About the head of the department

Akbarov Hashim Lalakhan oghlu, head teacher.

He was born on August 26, 1966 in the Jill village of Lankaran District. In 1991, he graduated from the "English language and literature" faculty of the Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages (now Azerbaijan University of Languages) named after the 50th anniversary of the USSR. He has been working at the department of “Foreign languages” since 1995. In 2009 (2009/2010), Hashim Akbarov won the "Junior Faculty Development Program" (JFDP-USA) program held by the American Council of Education. He studied at the faculty of "Applied Linguistics" at the University of Kansas, USA, and "American Studies" at the University of Wyoming, USA. He was awarded certificates and won the "Grand Prix" prize. In 2002, 2003, 2004, he was a prizewinner of the "Teaching Excellence Award" (TEA-USA) program for three years and received the certificates. In 2011 and 2012, within the framework of TEMPUS (Germany, England), ESFIDIP, IANUS and ERASMUS MUNDUS (Europe) projects, he participated in training and international conferences held in the universities of Great Britain, Italy and Germany, as well as in our country. In 2012, he graduated from the International Academy at the University of Essex in Great Britain and received the certificate. In 2023, within the framework of ERASMUS+KA107 he participated in the training of Staff Mobility at the university of Leon in Spain. In 2007/2010, he graduated from Nasimi Institute of Linguistics of ANAS (Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences). In 2014/2016, he completed his doctoral studies at Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iasse, Romania. He continues his research work on the topic of "Relative Syntagmas (Based on Azerbaijani and English Languages)". His articles have been published in global impact factor journals and also in Google Scholar. He teaches the subjects such as “Comparative typology”, "Methodology of teaching the English language", "Basics of pragmatics", "Innovations in English Language Teaching", "Communicative language teaching". He is the author of 42 scientific articles and some theses, 3 programs and 1 methodological aid.

About the staff of the department

Tahirov Ilham Mikayıl oghlu, Doctor of Philology, Professor. He was born on June 8, 1963 in the village of Miyanku in Masally. He graduated from the English Department of the Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages (now AUL) named after the 50th anniversary of the USSR with honor diploma (1986). He worked as a teacher in Hamarkand secondary school of Yardimly district (1986-1990). He was a full-time postgraduate student of Nasimi Institute of Linguistics of ANAS (1990-1993). He completed his candidate's thesis on "Azerbaijani language" specialty (1994), doctoral dissertation on "Language theory" specialty (2008), and doctor of philological sciences (2008), professor (2019). He worked as a junior researcher in the Nasimi Institute of Linguistics of ANAS in the Department of General Linguistics and Language Relations (1993-1996). He was the scientific secretary of the Institute of Linguistics named after Nasimi of ANAS (1996-2013), head of the department of ancient languages and culture of the institute (2013-2014), senior researcher in the department of ancient languages and cultures (2014-2016) and the department of Indo-European languages (2016-2019). Since 2019, he is the head of the Indo-European languages department of the Institute of Linguistics. He is the author of 7 monographs and books, 7 programs, more than 100 articles and theses dedicated to the issues of general linguistics, language theory, interlanguage relations, functional-semantic field, dialect lexicon, toponymy, language relations, research of ancient languages and cultures, linguistics, law. He is the author and editor of 8 books translated from English and Russian on the philosophy of international law and politics. Under his scientific supervising, 12 people defended their doctorate of philosophy and 2 people defended their doctorate of science. He is a member of the Scientific Council and Dissertation Council of the Institute of Linguistics named after Nasimi of ANAS, and the Humanities problem of the Council for Organization and Coordination of Scientific Research under the Presidium of ANAS. Since 2014, he has been lecturing at Lankaran State University on the subjects "Comparative typology", S/f (Semantic analysis), "Lexicology of a foreign language", "Linguo-didactic problems of teaching foreign languages" and supervising the master's and doctoral students. Javadova Yegana Hamdullah gızı, Ph.D. on Philology, Associate Professor.

She was born on January 4, 1966 in the city of Liman, Lankaran District. In 1986/1991, she got higher education at the Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages (now AUL) named after the 50th anniversary of the USSR. In 2010, she defended her dissertation on the topic of “Auxiliary parts of speech in English and their means of expression in Azerbaijani” in the specialty of “Language Theory”. In 2012, she received the title of Doctor of Philosophy in Philology. In 1996/2016, she worked as a senior lecturer at the "Foreign Languages" department at Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction. At the same time, she has been working as a 0.5 part-time teacher at Lankaran State University since 2015 and as 1.0 (full-time) teacher since September 2018. She teaches the following subjects at LSU: "History and methodology of foreign language training", "Language acquisition and discourse analysis", "Modern problems of foreign language training", "Country studies and intercultural communication", "Reading and speaking in a foreign language", "Foreign language skills", "Comparative typology". She is the author of 17 scientific articles.

Abbasova Sadagat Shirin gızı, Ph.D. on Philology, Associate Professor. She was born on November 15, 1960 in the village of Zaragan in Gabala. In 1981/1986, she got higher education at the Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages (now AUL) named after the 50th anniversary of the USSR and graduated with honor diploma. In 1986 she started working at the Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute. From 1991 to 2011, she worked at Baku State University. From 2011 to February 2024, she worked at Karabuk University of the Republic of Turkey. Since February 27, 2024, she has been working as an associate professor at Lankaran State University. She teaches the following subjects, such as “Home Reading in English”, “Press Language in English”, “Translation”, “Lexical and Syntactic Analysis”, “Business and Academic Communication in a Foreign Language”. She is the author of 31 scientific articles.

Heydarov Rafael Kalbi oghlu, head teacher. He was born on May 12, 1954 in Boladi village of Lankaran region. In 1975, he graduated from the "English Language" faculty of the Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages (now AUL) named after the 50th anniversary of the USSR. He has been working at the department since 2001. R. Heydarov has participated in trainings and international conferences held in Great Britain and German universities, as well as in our country, within the framework of the TEMPUS project. He teaches the subjects "Phonetic Analysis", "Communicative Phonetics of Foreign Language", "Communicative Grammar of Foreign Language", "Methods of Teaching Foreign Language", "Morphological Analysis". Faramazov Azer Suratullah oghlu, head teacher. He was born on March 22, 1966 in the village of Tangarud of Astara region. In 1991, he graduated from the Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages (now AUL) named after the 50th anniversary of the USSR. From 1991 to 2003, he taught English in several secondary schools of Astara region. In 2003, he worked as a project coordinator in the school coordination program at the US organization "Project Harmony" in Shuruk village of Lankaran region. In 2004-2016, he worked as an English teacher at Astara Pedagogical College. On September 27-29, 2007, he participated in the training on "Introduction to Leadership, Influence and Organizational Building" of the American "USAID" organization, and successfully completed the course with higher scores and received the certificate. On April 3-6, 2013, he participated in the International Conference in Kiev (Ukraine). The scientific article "Forming positive motivations in teaching English to non-specialized students" was published in 2015 at the Kiev National Academy (Ukraine). He teaches the subject "Business and academic communication in a foreign language". He is the author of 6 scientific articles. Aliyev Ilgar Tahir oghlu, head teacher. He was born on July 5, 1981 in the city of Lankaran. In 2003, he graduated from Lankaran State University, specializing in English language and literature. In 2003/2005, he continued his studies on "Linguistics" at the Master's level of Lankaran State University. He has been working at Lankaran State University since 2014. In 2019, he was a doctoral student of LSU, specializing in "World Literature". He teaches the subject "Business and academic communication in a foreign language". Aghayeva Zulfiya Khanoghlan gızı, head teacher. She was born on February 8, 1964 in Lerik district. In 1986, he graduated from the Azerbaijan State Institute of Russian Language and Literature (now BSU) named after M.F. Akhundov. She has been working at the department since 1994. She teaches the subject "Business and academic communication in a foreign language (Russian)". She has been working as a senior teacher since 2018. Since 2022, she is the deputy of dean for educational affairs of the "Faculty of Philology and Primary Education". She actively participated in many scientific conferences, trainings and symposium. She is the author of 16 scientific articles and theses, 1 program.

Mammadova Gunel Elmir gızı, head teacher. She was born on August 14, 1991 in Shusha. In 2012, she graduated from the "English" faculty of Azerbaijan University of Languages. In 2013, she continued her master's education at the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, specializing in "Methods and methodology of teaching primary education". In 2016, she started working as a tutor at LSU. Since September 6, 2017, she has been working as an English teacher at the "Foreign Languages" department. In 2018, she was admitted to the specialty "Comparative-historical and comparative typological linguistics" of the doctoral department of LSU. Since October 2022, she has been a student-teacher exchange specialist at the International Cooperation Department of the University and is currently the director of the department. Manafova Tunzale Jalal gızı, teacher. She was born in 1972 in the settlement of Garmatuk in Lankaran region. In 1994, she graduated from the "French language" faculty of Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages. She has been working at Lankaran State University since 2002. She teaches the subject "Business and academic communication in a foreign language (English)". In 2019, she was admitted to the specialty "Comparative-historical and comparative typological linguistics" of the doctoral department of LSU. She is the author of 6 scientific articles. Kazimova Malahat Shahveran gızı, teacher. She was born on December 3, 1958 in the city of Lankaran. In 1981, she graduated from the "English" faculty of the Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages named after the 50th anniversary of the USSR (now AUL). In1981- 1995, she worked as an English teacher at the Music College in Lankaran. In 1995, she started working as an English teacher at LSU. Now, she teaches the subject of "Business and academic communication in a foreign language -1-2 (English)". She is the author of 13 scientific articles and 2 theses. Aghayev Mugaddin Imanverdi oghlu, teacher. He was born on January 16, 1962 in the settlement of Garmatuk in Lankaran. In 1988, he graduated from the Institute of Russian Language and Literature named after M.F.Akhundov with honor diploma. In 1988/1994, he worked as a teacher at Vel and Garmatuk schools of Lankaran. He has been working at Lankaran State University since 2018. He teaches the subject of "Business and academic communication in a foreign language (Russian)". Ibrahimova Jamila Mazahir gızı, teacher. She was born on November 23, 1992 in Turkekaran village, Lankaran. In 2010, she was admitted to the specialty "Foreign language teaching (English)" at Lankaran State University. In 2017-2019, she completed her master's degree with honors at LSU, specializing in "Methodics and Methodology of Foreign Language Teaching". In 2014-2021, she worked as a laboratory assistant and operator-clerk at Lankaran State University. Since 2020-2021, she has been working as an English teacher at the department of "Foreign Languages" at LSU. In 2024, she was admitted to the specialty "Comparative-historical and comparative typological linguistics" of the doctoral department of LSU. She is the deputy of dean for social affairs of the "Faculty of Philology and Primary Education". Aghazade Shafa Aliziya gızı, teacher. She was born on July 17, 1996 in the village of Veravul, Lankaran. In 2014, she was admitted to the "Translation" specialty of LSU. In 2018, she graduated from LSU as a translator. In 2020-2022, she successfully completed her master's degree in "Methods and Methodology of Foreign Language Teaching" at LSU. In 2019, she started working as an English teacher at Lankaran Medical College. In 2022, she worked as an English teacher at the Social and Agrarian-Technological College under LSU. Since September 2022, she has been working as a teacher at LSU. She is the chief of the Student Scientific Society at the faculty of "Philology and Primary Education". She teaches the subject "Business and academic communication in a foreign language -1-2 (English)". She participated in several scientific and practical conferences and trainings of the Republic of Azerbaijan. She is the author of 2 theses.

Kazimova Aysel Shamil gızı, teacher. She was born on August 19, 1992 in the village of Veravul, Lankaran. In 2010-2014, she got a bachelor's degree in "Foreign language teaching" (English) of LSU. In 2014-2021, she worked as a laboratory assistant at the University. Safarli Aytaj Mirnazim gızı, teacher. She was born on September 4, 1998 in the settlement of Garmatuk in Lankaran. In 2020, she graduated from Lankaran State University with a bachelor’s degree on the specialty of Foreign Language (English) Teaching. In 2023, she completed her master’s degree on Linguistics at LSU. Since 2023, she has been working as an English teacher at the “Foreign Languages” department of the University. Mammadova Nafila Tarlan gızı, teacher. She was born on March 18, 1994, in the city of Shamakhi. In 2015, she graduated from the Azerbaijan University of Languages specializing in English language teaching. In 2020, she joined the master's degree program at Azerbaijan State University of Economics, Faculty of Business Management. She successfully completed her master's degree in 2022. In 2016-2022 she worked as an English teacher in the general secondary school of Gazanbatan village, named after I.Nazimov in Saatli district. Mastiyeva Aysel Bafaddin gızı, teacher. She was born on February 1, 1996 in Masally. In 2013 she was admitted to the specialty "Translation (in English)" at Lankaran State University. In 2018 she was admitted to master's level of Lankaran State University specializing in "Methods and Methodology of Foreign Language Teaching" (English)". In 2020 she completed her master's studies sucessfully. In 2022-2024 she worked as a specialist on documentation for publication of articles at the Department of Science and Research Affairs of Lankaran State University. Akhundzada Rasima Rasim gızı, teacher. She was born on June 14, 1995 in Lankaran. In 2016 she graduated from Azerbaijan University of Languages majoring in “Translation” with honors. In 2019 she received her master’s degree in “Methods and methodology of foreign language teaching" in Lankaran State University. In 2016 she began to work as a laboratory assistant at the Department of "Finance, Accounting and Auditing" of Lankaran State University, in 2017 as a clerical specialist at the Department of Human Resources and Clerical Work, in 2020 as a specialist on the International Relations at the International Cooperation Department, and in 2023 as a specialist on the Registration and assessment at the unit of Teaching organization, registration and assessment. Muradova Maya Alisa gızı, teacher. She was born on May 2, 1986 in Lankaran. In 2007 she graduated from the “Philology-Foreign languages (the English language)” of the Azerbaijan International University. In 2007/2008 she worked as an English teacher at Lankaran Medical Special School (now Medical College). In 2009-2023 she worked as an English teacher at Lankaran State Humanitarian College (now Social and Agrarian-Technological College under Lankaran State University), at the same time she worked as a specialist on educational documents. In 2023 she completed her master’s degree with honors at LSU, specializing in “Methods and Methodology of Foreign Language Teaching (English)”. In 2012-2016, she graduated from Lankaran State University, specializing in English language teaching. She worked as an English teacher at Lankaran Medical College in 2016-2023. In 2018-2020, she got a master's degree in Linguistics (English) at Lankaran State University. Gurbanova Aygun Ilham gızı, teacher. She was born on December 13, 1983 in Lankaran. In 2000, she was admitted to LSU, the speciality of "English Language and Literature".
